The Tonkin Highway Corridor project involves upgrades on Tonkin Highway between Hale Road and Welshpool Road.

Improvements include planned interchanges and widening the highway to a six-lane dual carriageway at Hale Road and Welshpool Road to improve safety and reduce delays along the heavily congested route. Works at Kelvin Road are also in planning.

A new Principal Shared Path is planned to the east of Tonkin Highway from Hale Road to Kelvin Road with links to the local cycle network, including underpasses at ramps at the new intersections.

Delivery of this project has been separated into two packages, with works on package one expected to commence in late-2024.

Package One (Hale Road to Welshpool Road): Interchanges at Hale Road (partial connection with north-facing ramps) and Welshpool Road East (full connections), including widening Tonkin Highway. Planning and procurement is underway for package one.

Package Two (Kelvin Road): Interchange at Kelvin Road (full connections) and the balance of Tonkin Highway widening. Development work is underway for package two.
