Improvements are being implemented along Indian Ocean Drive to improve road safety and transport efficiencies for local commuters and tourist traffic.

Stage One was completed in May 2023, and delivered approximately 24 kilometres of widened roads between Jurien Bay and Greenhead.

Construction on Stage Two between Leeman and Brand Highway is underway. These upgrades include two passing lanes (one northbound and one southbound), approximately 33 kilometres of widening, installation of audible edge lines, and realignment of crests and curves.

Detour options

  • Indian Ocean Drive Detour - April to Late-February 2025

    The section of Indian Ocean Drive between Eneabba-Coolimba Road and Brand Highway will remain temporarily closed to through traffic until late-February 2025. Access will be retained for local residents, businesses and emergency services. Detour in place as per map below, and is expected to add approximately 20 minutes to travel times.
