This project provided an extra southbound lane on the Mitchell Freeway between Hodges Drive and Hepburn Avenue and formed part of an overall strategy to improve the performance of the Mitchell Freeway.

The third lane reopened in May 2024, with the speed returning to 100kmh.

New ramp signals and overhead digital signage is being installed towards Warwick Road as part of the Smart Freeway upgrades.
