This project has extended Mitchell Freeway 5.6 kilometres from Hester Avenue to Romeo Road in Alkimos. The extension opened to commuters on 10 July 2023.

Key features of the project include a new interchange at Lukin Drive, a rail tunnel for the existing rail line at Butler Station, connecting Romeo Road from Wanneroo Road to Marmion Avenue as well as a new shared path for walkers and riders.

The extension services the rapidly growing north-western suburbs of Butler, Yanchep, Alkimos and Eglinton and areas to the east including Nowergup.

Parts of the project were completed in collaboration with the METRONET Yanchep Rail Extension
