A new 64-kilometre section of the Great Northern Highway will be constructed between Chittering Roadhouse and New Norcia.

Bypassing the town of Bindoon, this project will improve travel times, road safety and freight efficiency.

Triple road trains (53.5 metre trucks) traveling from northern regions on Great Northern Highway can only reach Wubin, requiring reconfiguration into shorter vehicles and extra trips to bring the additional trailer to Perth. This project addresses this by enabling access by triple road train to travel the entire length of the corridor.

The first stage of the Northern Section was opened in April 2022, including 7km of new highway north of Calingiri Road. The next 11km between Seven Mile Hill and New Norcia is underway and expected to be completed by mid-2025.

The Southern Section is in planning and runs from the existing Great Northern Highway at Chittering Roadhouse, to the west of Bindoon, and re-joins Great Northern Highway north of Calingiri Road.
